About Myofascial Release

Did you know that you shouldn’t be in pain? Really, your morning run shouldn’t hurt, and neither should your daily bike ride, or any other form of movement. For a lot of people, this is difficult to believe because pain has simply become part of their life. Whether you have been in pain for years or months, there is a way for you to reduce it and get back to what you love.

Myofascial release is not your typical spa or deep tissue massage. Rather than targeting the muscles alone, myofascial release focuses on the fascial system. Fascia is a web-like structure that extends throughout the entire body. When the fascia becomes restricted, it can harden, causing pressure and pain.

Fascia becomes restricted because of injuries or trauma. These restrictions can form and worsen over time. You may have fallen off your bike one day and felt fine in the moment, but ended up with seemingly unexplained pain weeks or months later. Or you may have been able to ski with no pain or restriction for your whole life, but have found that over time, movements that used to be effortless are now painful.

A lot of people will turn to massage as a way to alleviate their pain. It may work for a while, but a lot of people find themselves back on the massage table, wanting deeper, harder pressure, and still not finding lasting relief. This is because traditional massage techniques (yes, even deep tissue) don’t address fascial restrictions.

Myofascial release uses gentle, sustained pressure to release fascial restrictions and help points of tension or pain to unravel. Myofascial release gets to the root of your pain, allows you to move with more freedom, and get your power back.
